The Institute for Mining and Chemical Technological Research Tuzla was established by the Decree of the Executive Council of the People's Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina on December 29, 1960. year, whose reorganization formed the Institute of Chemical Engineering in 1977, which in the same year with the Institute of Coal Processing and Carbochemistry, and the Faculty of Technology Tuzla, formed a working organization for research and education in the chemical and process industry Tuzla.

This form of organizing scientific research work exists until December 28, 1989. year, when the units of the Institute of Chemical Engineering Tuzla and the Institute of Coal Processing and Carbochemistry Tuzla, become independent scientific research units.
